The Two-Basket Rabbit

Catalog #R318 — A Rare Anton Reiche Miniature

Bittersweet House Anton Reiche Rabbit R318 Click image for enlarged view
Standing at 4 inches tall, this hand-crafted chalkware rabbit captures the essence of a true antique. It is cast from a notably rare miniature chocolate mold produced by Anton Reiche of Dresden, featuring a mother rabbit carrying two distinct baskets.

To give this piece its "well-loved" character, I hand-mix my own colors to find the exact primitive shades that define 19th-century folk art. Combined with a meticulous antiquing process, the resulting finish has the soft, muted patina of an original heirloom. This rare figure is a perfect addition to a primitive collection, sitting beautifully alongside early folk art pieces or tucked into a small display of pantry boxes.
